Dr. Strange (& A JoAnn Fabrics Regret)

Dr. Strange is one of my long term artistic inspirations dating from childhood; the magical, mystical, psychedelic high-concept weirdness of the '70s comic books grabbed hold of my little tiny Pisces Moon self and never let go. I still love and am inspired by wild swirling patterns, fluorescent and neon colors, and things that glow as if lit from within.

So when the movie came out in 2016, I was of course, very happy. And within the month, I was wandering the aisles of Joann Fabrics and found several bolts of cotton fabrics that were clearly meant to be low key tie-ins to the movie - or at least jumping in on the zeitgeist.

I wanted at least two yards of all of them, but as I was not flush with cash at the time, I bought a couple of yards of two of them (you will see them as background fabrics in many of the product photos on the site) but left the last two behind to buy later.

When I came back, they - the ones in these photos - were gone. I still feel a little itch with this. If only I hadn't left them behind.

On a related note, Joann Fabrics' closing is a major loss to America. So many crafters who depended on it for low-cost supplies for the crafts that keep them sane and happy, so many Americans who believe it or not, still make their own or their families' clothes. Joann served markets others didn't and carried less expensive items. I myself grew up with Joann, and as a crafter and as someone with a mother who sews clothes and quilts prolifically, I feel the loss and am saddened.

Private equity destroys everything it touches (that's the point of it).
