Bring the color back into your life - please. If everyone did, there'd be beautiful color everywhere again. It is sorely needed. It is good for morale. Color is good for you, and not just in your diet.
I understand that we are living in an ever-tightening restrictive fascist nightmare, to say nothing of inflation choking us, and now we're enmeshed in a war. I get that it's all too much, everyone's nervous system is cranked up to 11, and too much stimulation of any kind feels like the last straw.
But color doesn't have to be overstimulating and it isn't tacky or tasteless or only for the lower classes. Real, vivid, beautiful color lifts everyone's mood, and is surprisingly more prevalent than you might think among luxury makers.
Alfa Romeo made a stunning kelly green Giulia Quadrifoglio; Hermès Orange is vivid, not dull. Porsche has worked in hot pink. Tiffany, of course, uses a robin's egg blue, not basic black.

I see people saying online that "they're trying to get us used to wearing institutional uniforms with all of the neutrals," and while I understand why people say that, I think it's the opposite. I don't think "they" are trying to depress us or sap our strength through color; I think people are becoming more and more and more conservative in their color choices because they are already overstressed or depressed, as I mentioned above. And when you don't have a lot of money (and few do these days), large purchases like homes or cars seem safer, and more likely to be resold at a decent price if they are in neutral colors.

Roses are scarlet red, brilliant white, yellow with pink edges, not tan or khaki; trees blossom in pink or white, not gray. Rubies are a deep red, not an off-white color. We don't think those things are tacky or too much, do we?
If you love neutrals, love those neutrals! But maybe - all things in balance. Perhaps throw a true, clear, bright color in with them once in a while; instead of a pop of navy, perhaps a pop of scarlet or yellow. Maybe we can bring neutrals back into line (where they should be in my opinion) as part of the full array of beautiful colors the human eye can see, instead of the only approved palette.

(And maybe it will cheer all of us up just a little every day.)
