One of my favorite days of the year for three reasons.

1) I have Irish heritage in the way back and it does stir something in my blood. Just like the veil between life and death is said to be thinner on Halloween, the veil between my everyday life and the Irish family past is thinner on March 17. I can feel the mist in the air, and ...

2) The scent in the air of the green, growing things there soon will be. It comes from both the rolling green land of collective family memory and the spring that's on its way in the here and now. Even if we're still seeing dirty, crunchy snow banks in the parking lots, spring is on its way by March 17. Soon enough, there will be greenery sprouting and buds blossoming.

3) Finally, green - a vibrant Kelly green - is my favorite color. I love other greens, too; a light spring green, lemon-lime, a deep foresty blue-green. But Kelly green is my favorite, and so many foods, drinks, clothes, decorations, even the Chicago River, are dressed in that color for the week of St. Patrick's Day that I get joy from it every year.

Accordingly, I am inspired to use vibrant greens in my work and I can point you to them.

Have a fun St. Patrick's Day! Why not wear head-to-toe green on the day this year, right down to the shoes?
